This beautifully restored 19th century manor is part of the famous Six Senses collection. Perfectly positioned within a stunning valley the property is surrounded by lush green fields, forested slopes and views down to Douro River. The hotel celebrates wellness, offering plenty of activities through their class schedule, delicious and healthy cuisine as well as space and time for guests to rest in their beautiful bedrooms and around the hotel. Guests can stay and enjoy the drop in pay as you go classes, but we’d highly recommend one of their programmes such as the wonderful yoga option we love!
This exquisite destination has an exclusive feel with every space offering something unique- in the forest guests can reflect in the hanging pods surrounded by nature or enjoy a stunning pottering through the kitchen garden whilst inside they can explore the wine library to enjoy the regions flavours or hang out in the Alchemy bar and learn to make simple products and fragrances.
The beautifully designed spa has large windows both by the indoor pool and glass fronted sauna to enjoy the mountain vistas and flood the space with natural light to create a wonderful tranquil atmosphere.
The programme, which is flexible for 3, 5 or 7 nights is designed to relieve stress and relax the body whilst harnessing strength and building flexibility! As well as the physical Asana, there is also a focus on having a quiet mind for a full holistic experience. For beginners it’s the perfect step in to yoga as each posture is taught by nurturing teachers who can adapt their sessions for the individual level, similarly this makes it a really attractive destination for experienced yogis, looking to engage on a deeper level whilst staying in stunning surrounding.
Many styles of yoga are offered including Ariel yoga which takes place in the upstairs studio which makes the most of views across the commanding valley outside! Aside from the yoga the programme also includes some beautiful treatments and Tibetan bowl meditation.
Offering only a small number of bedrooms- 60 in total, each one enjoys stretching views of the beautiful valley. The decor is designed with nature in mind, with simple colours, soft furnishing all created using a variety of natural materials. For extra luxury guests can also upgrade to spacious suites, with private balconies, some of which even have secret bridges that lead to a private balcony.
Thanks to the stunning location, the hotel reaps the benefit of all the valley has to offer in terms of fresh produce, grown in the sunshine to develop deep flavours. Supplemented by the herbs and vegetables grown in the organic garden, each restaurant has a menu designed around the seasons to show case the rich flavours of Portugal!
Guests can also book cooking classes in the open kitchen as well as workshops based about pickles, yogurts and teas!
