We find that the vast majority of our clients are looking to go away on their own. They are actively choosing to take some time out and dedicate this time to themselves as a way of positive self-care.  If you can make the time, it’s a precious opportunity to invest in your own wellbeing rather than take time out to focus on others, be it friends or family, who may place some demands on you for care or company! A yoga retreat or yoga holiday is the perfect time for some quiet reflection and introspection and time to set some positive intentions for the future. Your experience will be different whether you choose to join a group retreat or whether you choose to travel on your own to one of our recommended hotels that offer great yoga but in either case, travelling solo is an incredibly empowering experience and you’ll wonder why you haven’t done it before! Our suggestions below will ensure that if you are travelling on your own, you will have the most nurturing and beneficial time.

Joining a group retreat

If you would like to know you have some ready-made company on your yoga holiday then the best idea for you would be to join a group retreat. Destination Yoga only works with teachers who are warm and supportive on top of being exceptional yoga teachers, and so you will be incredibly well looked after. We’re also really lucky that we tend to attract really lovely guests – most of whom are also travelling on their own. On a group retreat you have the option of enjoying the company of your fellow guests but also taking some time out to enjoy your own company too. There are usually two yoga classes each day and the rest of the day is free for relaxation, exploring and often spa treatments, meaning you’re never short of anything to do and you have the ready-made company of a lovely group and a teacher, who is always looking out for you. Our group retreat venues range from quiet, remote, serene locations that we take over exclusively through to other unique beach-side hotels that we share with the hotel guests, so you have plenty of different settings to choose from. We can help you choose the teacher that may suit you best depending on whether you have practised yoga before at all, or whether you’ve been practising for years.

Enjoying a tailor-made yoga holiday

Not everyone is keen to embrace the idea of sharing their holiday with others, and so if you’re keen to be a little more independent or private then we have some really great ideas for long and short haul. The advantage of this choice is that we can tailor the holiday around your own availability, rather than you having to fit with prescribed retreat dates. We’ll ask you whether you are keen on a more in-depth yoga holiday (i.e. you may practise  up to a couple of times each day potentially combined with a healthy diet) or whether you are just keen to have more of a leisure break and dip into some classes as well as taking time out for spa, tennis, beach etc. Usually (not always) our solo travelling clients prefer adult-only destinations, just to ensure there is quieter than there would be at a family-resort, so let us know your preferences. At many of these places, it is likely that you’ll run into like-minded travellers too.
